At CRTLHost, I worked on the design, deployment and operation of hosting and telecommunications infrastructure. My responsibilities covered production Linux servers, Proxmox virtualisation, network architecture and VoIP platforms. I designed and maintained systems using Asterisk, VOS3000, Debian, CentOS, Cisco and MikroTik. Much of my work involved integrating different technologies, configuring SIP trunks and resolving complex signalling, routing and media-connectivity problems. I also worked on customer-specific infrastructure projects that required detailed planning and coordination between hosting environments, network systems and telecommunications providers.

- Designed and implemented a multi-network VoIP routing and SIP media interworking platform for THE GOAL, India, on behalf of CRTLHost.
- Built the solution using Debian, Proxmox, CentOS and Asterisk 16, integrating a softswitch with a dedicated SIP-trunk gateway.

I began my professional engineering career at Karnaphuli Online Limited, working on telecommunications infrastructure, VoIP systems and IP networking. My responsibilities included designing and maintaining Asterisk-based communication platforms, managing MikroTik network infrastructure and investigating signalling, routing and bandwidth-related problems. Working with networks where bandwidth was limited encouraged me to examine how different VoIP protocols handled voice traffic and whether changes to the transmission architecture could improve efficiency. This became an important area of my research and led to the development of a SIP-to-IAX2 interworking approach for carrying voice communication over constrained network connections.

- Designed and implemented a SIP-to-IAX2-to-SIP interworking architecture to improve VoIP bandwidth efficiency.

About / Mohammad Sorower Jahan

From Technical Challenges to Practical Engineering Solutions

I have always been interested in understanding how technology works and, more importantly, how it can be improved.

Throughout my career, I have encountered engineering challenges where standard configurations or existing approaches did not fully meet operational requirements. These experiences encouraged me to explore alternative architectures, investigate protocol behaviour and develop solutions suited to the available infrastructure.

My approach combines technical research with hands-on implementation. I prefer to understand a problem at its source, examine the available options and evaluate the results before deciding on a solution.

Working across telecommunications, infrastructure engineering and technical education has also taught me the importance of sharing knowledge and learning from practical experience.

My engineering career began in January 2008 at Karnaphuli Online Limited, where I worked as a VoIP and Network Infrastructure R&D Manager. During this period, I gained extensive experience in telecommunications systems, network infrastructure and voice traffic engineering.

One of my notable projects involved developing a SIP-to-IAX2-to-SIP interworking solution to improve bandwidth efficiency over constrained network connections. The project required investigating protocol behaviour, designing the interworking architecture and evaluating its performance under practical operating conditions.

In January 2015, I joined Tech News 365 IT Institute as a Senior Lecturer and IT Research and Innovation Lead. Alongside my teaching responsibilities, I continued exploring telecommunications engineering, particularly methods of improving the efficiency of Asterisk-based systems. My work included investigating media bypass techniques that could reduce unnecessary processing while maintaining SIP signalling functionality.

In January 2022, I moved to CRTLHost as an Infrastructure and VoIP / SysOps Engineer. My responsibilities included Linux infrastructure, Proxmox virtualisation, network routing and VoIP platform engineering. I also worked on multi-network SIP interworking, bringing together different telecommunications environments through carefully designed routing and media configurations.

Since October 2025, I have worked as Head of Information Technology at BanglaMedia Ltd in London. My role involves overseeing IT infrastructure, managing technical operations and contributing to the planning and development of reliable digital systems.

I hold an MSc in Statistics and a BSc (Honours) in Statistics from the University of Chittagong. My academic background has influenced my analytical approach to engineering, particularly when assessing performance, investigating technical limitations and evaluating possible improvements.

Over the years, I have also developed my technical knowledge through professional certifications, practical research and continuous work with networking and infrastructure technologies.

Today, my interests remain centred on telecommunications engineering, system optimisation and the development of practical solutions to infrastructure challenges. I continue to document selected technical projects and share my experience through professional collaboration, technical writing and open-source platforms.
